Client Situation

  • Our client is a leading hospital with world-class clinical trials capabilities

  • The organisation was in the early stages of commercialising its pathology services to external customers and was considering corporatisation as the next stage

  • Acutus was engaged to develop a Business Plan for the establishment of a separate controlled corporate entity

  • The Business Plan was to include an external market review, a preferred operating model, and detailed financial modelling

Our Approach

  • We completed a comprehensive review of the market including clinical trial activity by region, phase, and test type

  • We engaged with 30+ stakeholders to understand views on risks and opportunities

  • We developed a standalone operating model for the new entity which included service provision principles and cost transfer mechanisms

  • We defined the governance and leadership structures, and articulated remuneration principles for the new entity

  • We completed detailed financial modelling based on performance scenarios, to understand P&L, cashflows, surplus distributions and reinvestment

Outcome

  • Our analysis provided our client with a comprehensive plan for coroporatising pathology services

  • The Business Plan was endorsed by the Executive team and then presented to, and approved by, the organisation’s Board
